aXichem AB (publ), a developer of natural analogue industrial compounds, announces that the company applies for Feed Additive approval in the EU for its unique and innovative feed ingredient product aXiphen. The Feed Additives Regulation managed by the European Food Safety Autohrity (EFSA) establishes a common procedure for authorizing feed additives and lays down rules for their placing on the market, labelling and use in the European Union.

“In line with our communicated plan we are now applying for a Feed Additive approval from EFSA, with the aim to get the certificate before the year’s end. The Novel Food directive has served us well also for feed trials during the initial phase of the establishment of aXiphen feed, and will continue to do so, but as we now aim for larger volumes, targeting leading feed producers, Feed Additive is required. I feel confident that we have high quality data in the filed material which should mean that we have a solid platform for a good process forward,“ says Torsten Helsing, CEO of aXichem.

About aXiphen®
aXiphen is a natural analogue substance, a synthetically produced and patented capsaicin, based on a molecule developed by aXichem. Since aXiphen is synthetically produced the substance has several advantages compared to natural capsaicin. The main difference is that natural capsaicin is extracted from chili and therefore varies in quality and seldom reaches a concentration above 85 percent. aXiphen holds a concentration of at least 97 percent and has predictable characteristics. One of the key industrial benefits of aXiphen is that aXichem can determine its water- and fat solubility, which is critical when using the substance in various kinds of products.
